You need to have flamenco dancing experience to take this course, as it is designed to prepare the students to dance to live flamenco music and singing. El Fandango is a very old style of dance that, over time, has acquired flamenco traits. Nowadays there are many types of Fandangos, and the type that we will be teaching in this class is very popular in the Huelva region of Spain. The dance is somewhat flirtatious, with movements that can be associated with one person trying to attract another. This course will teach the students four Fandangos, with a different one being taught each month. At the end of four months, students will have learned four beautiful Fandangos. Olé

This advanced class is designed for those students who are ready to take their dancing to the next level. You need to have flamenco dancing experience to take this course, as it is designed to prepare the students to dance to live flamenco music and singing. “La alegría” comes from the word “alegre” (happy), and this dance belongs to the group of flamenco dances called the “cantiñas.” Las cantiñas is a generic name for a series of singing pieces that are sung in middle voice, many times in an improvisational and playful way. The dance has a very well marked “escobilla” (footwork) and a slower portion called the “silencio.” Another trait of the alegrias is the traditional “Tirititrán” that some people say was invented by Ignacio Espeleta during a party in which he forgot the lyrics.
In this course, students will learn how to mix together several steps so that they can improvise and dance their own alegrías to live music. Students will also learn one escobilla, and learn how to dance “silencios” with expression, control, nice body movement, and duende.
